Creation and the Age of the Earth

Does the Bible teach how old the earth is? What if scientists were able to prove that the earth is not thousands of years old, but millions of years old, would that prove that the Bible is false? If you are open to the possibility of the earth being millions of years old, how do you interpret the word "day" in the creation account? Doesn't day mean a 24 hour period?

This is a tough question I dont know if I can give a good answer. In Genesis 1:5 "God called the light 'day' and the darkness 'night.' Together these make up one day." So if they proved that the earth was millions of years old I don't what I would think. Maybe the Bible was written sooner than they think.

But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.
2 Peter 3:8

For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night.
Psalm 90:4

I agree with Cody: 'Answers in Genesis' say that Carbon 14 is just a theory - though, sadly, it's taught as truth.
Can't we figure out how old the earth is through the geneology of Christ? The Bible tells how long each man lived, etc...
